M3U vs Xtream Codes – Which IPTV Login Method Should You Use?
M3U and Xtream Codes are two common ways a compatible IPTV player can load an authorized
subscription. They are not separate subscriptions by themselves. The best method depends on
the device, the player and the account information supplied in the activation email.
KroozTV customers should use the login format supplied for their account rather than guessing
values or converting between formats through unknown websites.
What Is an Xtream Codes Login?
An Xtream-style login normally separates the account into a server URL, username and password.
Compatible players can use those fields to organize live categories, movies, series and EPG.
TiviMate, IPTV Smarters-style players and MYTVOnline are common examples of interfaces that can
support this workflow.
The important advantage is clarity: each authentication field can be checked independently.
If login fails, retype the server, username and password exactly as supplied. Preserve the
protocol and port from the activation information.
The public-safe KroozTV examples shown in the device guides use placeholders for private customer
values. A real streaming username and password should never be published on a website, forum or screenshot.
What Is an M3U Playlist?
M3U is a playlist format used by many media and IPTV players. In a private service setup, the
complete playlist URL can contain the streaming username and password as URL parameters. That
makes the full M3U address sensitive information even though it looks like an ordinary web link.
Players such as VLC can open a private M3U URL directly as a network stream or playlist. TiviMate,
Kodi, Enigma2 tools and other compatible players can also use M3U workflows.
Do not paste a complete private M3U URL into random browser players, URL analyzers or public
support posts. Anyone who receives the full URL may be able to see the embedded account values.
Xtream Codes vs M3U: Main Differences
| Feature | Xtream Codes | M3U |
|---|---|---|
| Typical input | Server + username + password | Complete playlist URL |
| Easy to verify individual fields | Yes | No – account data is normally inside the URL |
| Common TV-player use | TiviMate, Smarters, MYTVOnline | TiviMate, VLC, Kodi, Enigma2 and other playlist players |
| Credential privacy | Keep username/password private | Keep the entire URL private |
| EPG | Can be integrated by compatible players | Can use a separate EPG source when supported |
Which Method Should TiviMate Users Choose?
If the activation information provides a server URL, username and password, Xtream Codes is a
clean TiviMate setup because the fields are entered separately. If the account is supplied as a
complete M3U Plus URL, TiviMate can instead use the M3U playlist workflow.
Do not create a second account configuration just because both options exist. Start with the
format that matches the supplied account details and confirm normal playlist and EPG loading
before experimenting.
See the KroozTV TiviMate setup guide for the full device workflow.
Which Method Should IPTV Smarters Users Choose?
Smarters-style applications commonly expose an Xtream Codes login and may also support M3U.
Choose the form that matches the activation data. If the app asks for a profile name, that is
normally only a local label; it is not the streaming username.
If a saved Smarters profile fails, verify the login method before changing network or decoder
settings. Authentication should be solved before buffering or EPG troubleshooting begins.
Use the IPTV Smarters setup guide for a full walkthrough.
Which Method Should Windows Users Choose?
Windows provides both styles. A dedicated IPTV application can use Xtream Codes for a richer
television-style interface, while VLC is useful with a private M3U Plus URL for a simple
playback test.
Download VLC only from the official
VideoLAN website.
Kodi users can also configure an authorized M3U playlist through its supported PVR workflow.
See the KroozTV Windows IPTV guide for the complete setup.
Formuler, MAG and Portal Login Are Different
Formuler MYTVOnline can support Xtream Codes and M3U, but it can also use a portal-based
configuration when that method has been specifically provisioned. Traditional MAG devices
commonly use a portal tied to the device MAC address.
A portal URL is not automatically the same value as the normal Xtream server. Do not copy
an Xtream server into a portal field simply because both are URLs. Use the exact method
supplied for the device.
See the Formuler guide and
MAG guide for those device-specific workflows.
How EPG Works With M3U and Xtream Codes
EPG is a separate data layer from video playback. Some Xtream-compatible players retrieve guide
information as part of the account workflow. M3U players can also accept a separate EPG source
when the application supports it.
If video plays but the guide is blank or shifted, keep the working account. Refresh EPG and
check device date, time and timezone before rebuilding the login.
The dedicated IPTV EPG troubleshooting guide covers
missing guide data and wrong program times.
Security Rules for Both Methods
- Keep streaming usernames and passwords private.
- Treat a complete M3U URL like a password because it can contain credentials.
- Do not paste private playlist URLs into unknown web players or conversion sites.
- Do not confuse the secure billing/client password with the streaming password.
- Use official or trusted player sources appropriate for the device platform.
- When requesting support, send the device, player, login method and exact error without posting credentials publicly.

M3U vs Xtream Codes FAQ
Is Xtream Codes better than M3U?
Not universally. Use the method supported by the player and supplied with the account.
Does an M3U URL contain my password?
A complete private M3U URL can contain the streaming username and password as URL parameters, so keep the entire URL private.
Can TiviMate use both methods?
Yes. Compatible TiviMate setups can use Xtream Codes or M3U Plus.
Can VLC use M3U?
Yes. VLC can open a private M3U URL as a network stream or playlist.
Is a MAG portal the same as Xtream Codes?
No. Traditional MAG portal/MAC configuration is a separate workflow.
