Smart TV vs External Streaming Device
A built-in Smart TV application can reduce hardware, while an external streaming device may provide a different application ecosystem and hardware profile.
Built-In Smart TV
The application runs directly on the television. This keeps the physical setup simple, but available players depend on the TV manufacturer, model, software generation and region.
External Streaming Device
A Fire TV or Android/Google TV device adds its own application environment. This can provide different player choices without replacing the television itself.
Do You Need New Hardware?
If your existing television has a compatible player that performs well, additional hardware may be unnecessary. Test what you already own before purchasing another device solely because a tutorial uses it.
